Day 6

26 July 2002
Ouray, CO to Montrose, CO
34.9m

Day 6 was the shortest and easiest day of the ride. Just 35 miles of easy downhill all the way to Montrose. Many of the hard core riders planned to ride an extended route through Telluride. I had thought about riding 12 miles past Montrose to Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, but decided to just take it easy.

The ride was short and fast.  We were in a small paceline at about the halfway point when my back tire went flat again. This was (I think) my fourth flat tire. After we got to Montrose and cleaned up, I rode downtown to a bike shop and had a better tire put on. We just lounged around the rest of the day and evening, drinking beer and listening to the band. Best day ever.

...and in Montrose
