Day 18: Joplin to Fort Scott. 65 miles. Beautiful day. Cooler.
Headwinds. This is downtown Joplin.
Another train that failed to delay me.
And now for a couple days of Kansas--a state known for it's
cycling-friendly roads and cycling-friendly drivers.
Missouri actually turned out to be pretty friendly after that
first day in the hills. And I'll be back in a couple days.
Downtown Pittsburg, Kansas. I had lunch here.
Seems like a dirty trick to play on the wildlife.
This was the road I took all the way into Fort Scott. If you
look closely you can see the rumble strips that run all the
way across the shoulder every 5 yards or so. Grrrr.
My hotel in Fort Scott is across the street from the actual Fort
Scott National Historic Site.
They put a lot of effort into downtown Fort Scott--what with all
the bricks in the street--but there are quite a few
vacant storefronts. Tomorrow I have long ride to Ottawa, KS in
order to get into KC on Thursday.
