Day 14
Thursday, 18 Jun 2015
Boise, ID to Mountain Home, ID
50.5 miles, 4h23m, 11.5 mph
Elapsed Time: 5h10m, Max speed: 26.2 mph
Total Climbing: 1417ft, Max elevation: 3415ft
Total mileage: 820.9
For the next couple days I'll be more or less following the Oregon
Trail (in reverse, of course). There are 21 Oregon Trail monuments
in Boise.
This is the only one I noticed.
The iconic Boise Depot. Once a train station, now available for
banquets and weddings.
This is the widest chipseal surfaced road I have ever ridden on.
Looking back at Boise before I jump on the interstate.
It's I-84 again after nine days away. And look at that beautiful
smooth shoulder. And I didn't have to worry about speeding.
So I guess this is what those Oregon Trail settlers were looking
at. Except for the fences I doubt the view has changed much.
After about 10 miles I got off the interstate to enjoy the back
roads.
Whole lot of nothing out here.
Most exciting moment: wondering if that bush was going to jump out
in front of me.
A couple of dust devils off in the distance. The left is skinny
and actually quite tall. The one on the right is fat and lazy.
Crossing the interstate over onto the Old Oregon Trail Highway,
which took me into Mountain Home. More desert and Oregon Trail
riding tomorrow.
