Day 11. Keswick to Moffat. 73 miles. While talking to the woman who runs the B&B this morning, she mentioned that the bike trail heading
west from Keswick had been washed out by floods over a year ago. Apparently Mr. Garmin is unaware of this fact--as was I. As a result, we had to
take Cycle Route 71, which--as befitting National Cycle Route--ran us up a big climb to the Castlerigg Stone Circle. The unexpected climb is the
explanation for the odd expression on my face. Either that or my phone was vexing me.

Having gotten around the washed-out path, we followed a series of roads along this hillside of sheep pastures.
There were many gates to be opened and closed. Some of which were there to keep the sheep in line. Some I suspect
were there only to slow down the cyclists.

A disheartening sign in front of a disused farm. The weather was nice today--especially after two days of solid rain.
It should, however, rain every day from here on in.

Finally we got free of the Lake District and its hills and rolled on to less challenging terrain.

We made a huge effort to avoid wasting time navigating Carlisle. The castle was right on the route, but we didn't have time to tour it.

Though Mr. Balint made a run at the gate, only to be repulsed by the barrier.

And then at Gretna Green we crossed into Scotland. The resulted in massive delay for all the photo shoots.

And a couple from Australia and New Zealand stopped to chat for a while about touring and stuff.

A little farther up the road we came to Lockerbie. Mr. Balint rode over to the cemetery to see the monument to the 1988 bombing, while I chose
to save energy by continuing on.

It's beginning to look a lot like Scotland. Tomorrow we ride to Edinburgh in the rain.
