Archibald Clemons' first wife Mary Jane Flanery died in August 1864. By 1866 he had replaced her with Mary J. Lafleur. After all, he had two small children to raise and a farm to run.
Mary J. Lafleur was born in Franklin County, New York in 1835. She may have been previously married to a man named McQueen since Archibald had a "stepson" named Edward McQueen, who lived with the Clemonses from the time Mary came on the scene. Edward, who sometimes appears in census records as "Edward Clemons," died in 1892 at the age of 29 and is buried in the Dresden Station Cemetery. Mary's sister Julia Lafleur was also a long-time member of the household.
