Margaret O. Clemons

Born: 16 May 1870, Wisconsin
Died: 3 Dec 1935, probably Coggon, IA
Buried: Coggon Cemetery, Coggon, IA
Parents: Alonzo B. Clemons, Jeannette Cummings
Married: Frederic C. Crosby (1862-1961), c1894
Children: Kathryn J. Crosby (Apr 1896), Clemons C. Crosby (13 Mar 1898), Harry L. Crosby (1 Aug 1900), Marriette J. Crosby (c1903), Harriette Elizabeth Crosby (1906).

Margaret was the third of the three Clemons children born in Wisconsin. She married Frederic C. Crosby (who was also born in Wisconsin) in about 1894. Frederic worked at the Coggon Railroad station, first as a station agent and telegrapher, and later as the station manager.

Frederic and Margaret had five children:

Their first child, Kathryn, was born in April 1896. She married Elwood L. Sanders in September 1924 (license issued on 11 September 1924). By 1930, they were living in Waterloo, Iowa with two children: Richard M. Sanders (b. 1926) and Daniel C. Sanders (b. 1927). Elwood was a World War I veteran who earned his living as an insurance agent.

Clemons C. Crosby was born on March 13, 1898 and served in World War I. He was still living at home in 1920, but by 1930 he was boarding with a family in Wright County, Iowa and working as a chemist in the sugar beet industry. We then lose track of him until his death in Los Angeles on August 30, 1966 at the age of 68. At the time of his death he was living in Thousand Oaks, CA. Clemons was easy to track because of his unique name. He appears to have been the only person ever to be named Clemons Crosby.

Harry L. Crosby was born on 1 Aug 1900. He is not to be confused with the famous entertainer Harry L. "Bing" Crosby, who was born in Tacoma, Washington at about the same time. This Harry Crosby left home after 1920 and we lose track of him.

Marriette J. Crosby was born in about 1903. She also left home after 1920.

Harriet E. Crosby was born in 1906 and she was the only child still living at home at the time of the 1930 census. She married a man named Francis.

Margaret O. Crosby died in 1935 at the age of 65 and was buried in the Coggon Cemetery. Her husband lived to age 98 and is also buried there.
