It's late and I'm tired, so just a quick summary of the day and some
pictures.
It was wet when we started, but not raining. In the morning it was
cloudy and we faced a headwind. After lunch the sun came out and the
wind turned around so it was behind us. There were no real hills.
We rode south to Wabasha and then crossed the river into
Wisconsin--leaving Minnesota for the last time on this trip. Then we
pushed south on the Wisconsin side, ate lunch at an Irish pub in
Fountain City, rode part of the unpaved Great River Trail. We were
questioned about bicycle touring by two very attractive young women who
were out riding their road bikes. We blundered our way across LaCrosse
until we found our cramped little motel. Then we walked two miles to do
laundry. We ate at the laundomat--food we bought at the Walmart across
the street.
It was cloudy over Lake Pepin in the morning.
And we saw a string of barges.
Leaving Minnesota on the Wabasha bridge.
Nelson, WI. Just across the bridge from Wabasha.
Four of the first five buildings are fireworks dealers.
The fifith is the community center.
A common sight. Yesterday Mr Balint chain-stained himself before he
left the motel.
Today he held off until he got out of the state.
Typical scenery along the river on the Wisconsin side.
As long as the road stays off the bluffs, nobody gets hurt.
This is Lock 4. The did the whole locking deal for that little motor
boat.
The bear just needed to get into a picture.
Great River Trail. Yeah, it's dirt. Good dirt, though.
This train was going, like, 60 mph.
We've seen a lot of trains. This one was in LaCrosse.
Tomorrow we head for Prairie du Chien.
