Santa Barbara, CA to Oxnard, CA
44.9 miles, 3h20m, 13.5 mph
Elapsed Time: 4h54m, Max speed: 30.0mph
Total Climbing: 684ft, Max elevation: 206ft
Total mileage: 1764.7
It was cloudy when we left Santa Barbara at about 9am. We learned that
this morning
cloudiness is called the "marine layer." The result is called "June
gloom." The ride was downwind and mostly
flat along beaches and down the freeway. It was probably the easiest
day ever.
These people apparently do not have jobs. Like us.
We rode through neighborhoods like this.
We stopped in Carpenteria for coffee at the Starbucks. After several
miles on the freeway, we stopped at Ventura for a snack. On the other
end of town we stopped again at the Channel Islands National Park
Visitor Center. Originally, I had ideas of taking a day off and
visiting the Channel Islands, but that's gone out the window. Instead
we'll take our day off at the end of the ride. We took the elevator to
the top of the visitor center, but we couldn't even see the islands
from there.
Arrghh! The Pirate JT cannot spy the islands.
This is what Ventura marina looks like. Wow.
We were in Oxnard shortly after leaving Ventura, but then we had to
ride and ride and ride before we reached the Best Western. Oxnard is a
very sprawling town. The motel is across from a lumber yard and in a
Glen Burnie-like area of used car dealerships and body shops. I really
don't know why it's here.
