Today was the first truly sunny day since before we entered Oregon. It is only fitting that today we left Oregon.

We made today into a rolling rest day. It was very short and very flat. We didn't see any Germans today. The ones we met yesterday have probably moved on ahead of us, but I'm sure there are plenty more where they came from.

Okay, only one state to go!

JT celebrates our entry into California.

The coastal plain between Brookings and Crescent City  is farm county. There are lots of cows, none of which I photographed. The landscape is dotted with the gigantic stumps of redwoods that were cut down a long time ago. Some of them have fairly large trees growing out of them. I didn't take any good pictures of them either.

It didn't take long to get to Crescent City. We took a lap around the town looking for someplace to eat lunch on the waterfront. We ended up right across the street from our motel at the town harbor.

I guess they ran out of room in the water..

After lunch, we checked in to the motel and hit the hot tub. We also did laundry. Then we ate again.

Tomorrow we will be climbing into Redwood National Park and camping out somewhere.

By the way, correct and informative identifications of Stellar's Jay continue to come in from around the country and around the world. Recent answers have come from Germany and Albuquerque. Apparently, everybody knew about this bird but us. I don't know if everyone knows this about the Stellar's Jay: it is attracted to the sound of rustling plastic bags. At least the ones that live around campsites are.
