We did actually talk to our German neighbors. The couple with the massive amounts of gear is riding to Crescent City and then back to Portland via an inland route. They have a tent that is big enough to put their bikes inside. They have cooking gear, including plates. I think they had a sofa in there.

The other couple is riding from Portland to San Francisco. Their pace is pretty close to ours and we crossed paths with them on and off all day. There is also another pair of guys riding south and we suspect that they are also Germans. They are all staying at a state park just north of Brookings while we will rest comfortably at the Best Western.

It was a cold night and it was still cool when we broke camp in the morning. We had all day to go 50 hilly miles, so we decided to take it easy.

The bicycle slug moves from place to place by attaching itself to a host.
This one didn't leave the campsite.

We stopped at Gold Beach and ate lunch. There was a boat race going on in the Rogue River, upstream from the bridge. I stopped to watch, and then the boats started racing and they disappeared up the river. There was nothing to watch.

There was a nice big climb after Gold Beach that brought us up to over 700 feet.

Looking down the beach.

I call this Mohawk Rock

Phew!

The rest of the ride was all up and down. There were many views of the ocean, and many views of rocks.

More rocks.

One of our German friends took this picture of us with rocks.

At Boardman State Park, we stopped and talked to the woman volunteer who takes care of the trails and roadside for this part of the park. After about 20 minutes we moved about 200 yards down the road to the natural bridges. You can hike down to the bridges and walk over them, but it was too far and too steep to negotiate the trail in cycling shoes.

Natural bridges at Boardman State Park.

A mile or so later we came to the Thomas Creek Bridge, the highest bridge in the state of Oregon (345 feet).

Highest one there is. Yup.

I have no memory of taking this photo. It must be near Brookings.

We pulled in to the Best Western at about 3:45 and ate a big dinner at the restaurant across the street. Tomorrow will be a short day.
