Day 9: Little Rock to Hot Springs. 60 miles. At 2am I was awoken
by somebody in the hallway saying, "Open up! Little Rock
Police."
Thankfully it was not my door. And it seems like Little Rock had
a late night Saturday, because sure was sleeping in on Sunday
morning.
Some of today's ride was on rural roads. Some of it was rainy.
First courthouse photo of the trip (I think). Benton, AR.
Through this 200 yard zone I carefully averted my eyes, lest I
see a bald eagle and fall afoul of the zonal regulation.
For some reason I thought riding in to Hot Springs on US70 would
be ideal. It was direct, but it was high-traffic, high-speed.
Ahh, whatever. It's over now. Oh, and it rained.
I'm at the Embassy Suites. This is the view from my room back
the way I came. It's getting hilly.
I scampered down to Bathhouse Row before the National Park
visitor center closed. One of the bathhouses is operated
by the Park Service in the old way. But not this one.
This one is now the visitor center. I toured it just before it
closed.
It had a shower of many heads. How many are there?
And these sweat boxes--prominent from comedy movies of the past.
The main Men's bathhouse room thing. Way better than the
Women's. Yeah, they let us see both. Scandalous!
One of the bathhouses has been usefully repurposed as a brewery.
I sampled some of their product and ate some of their food.
One last look down Bathhouse Row before I headed back to the
hotel.
In Hot Springs, two things are free--hot spring water and
parking. I saw some people filling dozens of gallon jugs at one
of these spigots.
And I saw lots of people parking. For free.
