Day 6: Eudora to Dumas. 58 miles. The sharp-eyed will notice
that the Brooks Saddle is back in favor. Three days
on the Terry was enough to remind me why I bought the Brooks in
the first place. I still have one more day to decide.
But I am leaning Brooks.
The scenery was the same as yesterday and tomorrow. And it was
really hot--topping 100 degrees by the time I finished riding.
The wind was almost straight out of the west--which helped cool
me off, but didn't really help me along.
The coolest thing today was Lake Chicot and the appropriately
named village of Lake Village. Another ox-bow lake from
a Mississippi River course change.
And there were shenanigans.
After the lake, back to the usual scenery.
A brief moment of excitement. Someday there will probably be a
gas station here. Buy your land now!
I arrived in Dumas at about 2pm. Linda and I drove out to the
Arkansas Post National Memorial to see what all the fuss
was about. Turns out the fuss ended here about 150 years ago.
This used to be a town.
It was really hot, so we drove back to the motel and later went
out for Mexican. It was still hot. It's still hot.
This is a swamp we passed on the way Tomorrow is Linda's last
full day with me on this trip.
