Day 18

  St. Louis, MO

Pictures from a day of tourism in the St. Louis area.

Jones Confluence State Park. That's me with the Missouri River on the right
and the Mississippi River to the left.

Linda with the Missouri on the left and Mississippi on the right.

Bear. Missouri on right. Mississipi on left.

It's a surprisingly interesting park. A bit out of the way, and a bit beat up by floods.

Then we went back to St, Charles to see the first capitol of Missouri--which was that dry goods
store on the right.

This big discovery in St, Charles was Fitz's Root Beer. I couldn't open the bottle
but the girl in the shop had no problem.

Then we went to the Walden Spring Site. It's s big concrete cell entombing the
remains of a uranium processing plant that had been abandoned in 1966.

They have a really good interpretive center with lots of displays and knowledgable people.

And you can hike up onto the pile if you want.

After all the climbing we needed a beer so we went to the Schlafly Bottleworks. Through
our time mismanagement we were unable to take the tour.

So we went to Ted Drewes for custard. After that we were pretty full.

While driving across town we passed a Toyota dealership that had a Scion FRS.
The guy said it's the only one they have.

Finally, we hit the Missouri History Museum. It is full of things like this that invite you to touch them...but then
when you look closer to read the little card it says, "Don't touch!"

We fly home tomorrow to the same heat we are leaving.
