Day 19. Travel and logistics. We drove into Edinburgh and parked
in a garage near the train station and out hotel. Then we walked
over to the train station
with Mr. Balint and picked up our train tickets while he went on
his way to Manchester and points south.
We then walked a couple a miles to find a laundromat and took care
of that business. Then we shopped for a piece of rolling luggage
big enough
to handle all my crap that can't go into the gigantic bike bag or
into my carry-on. Then we decided I needed a better carry-on bag,
so we bought me a backpack. We checked in to our hotel (pictured)
to discover that the elevator was broken. As compensation,
they gave us free drinks and upgraded us to a King suite--on the
top floor. They had a couple guys haul our gigantic bags all the
way up.
I'm looking forward to dragging everything down on Saturday
morning.
We did a little tourism--visiting the Scottish National
Gallery--then there was the multi-hour ordeal of returning
the rental car. After that we were knackered, so we ate dinner at
the hotel and went to bed.
Tomorrow we will do some actual tourism.
