Day 14. Perth to Kingussie. 75 miles. The last longest day began
with a flat tire. Actually, the guy at the shop put one of John's
many bad tubes in the tire. So the day started with a tube change
in the hotel. Good thing because outside it was raining.
Which is where Mr. Balint had to change his second flat. Now these
are the new tires he bought yesterday. This time a tiny sliver of
something
got through. He changed the tube and patched the inside of the
tire. No more problems today.
We stopped for a rest next to a sign that said the Dunfallandy
Stone was 250 yards away. I was against the extra travel, but
ultimately I caved
and walked up a bunch of stairs to see this. It's a 9th century
Pictish picture stone. So there's your tourism.
All day I was dreading the big 15-mile climb up to the Drumochter
Summit. But when it came it was almost pleasant. It helped that it
had
stopped raining, but also because the bike route was mostly on the
old road bed. So it was not too steep. And it was scenic.
Soon the sun was shining and everything was drying.
Horses, drying.
Mr. Balint reached the top long before me. At first I thought he
was some homeless barefoot hippy guy lounging on the path.
Notice the little Loch Ness Monster.
The descent was long and easy. not too fast, not too slow.
There were paths and B-roads all the way into town.
Sometimes the path was wide enough for action photos.
First distillery of the trip! It was closed for the day.
We arrived at the hotel about 7pm. Tomorrow we ride to Inverness.
